The Robot Vacuum Data Report (2026): Does Spending More Get You a Better Robot?

Does spending more get you a better robot vacuum? We scored 43 current models on the same five-axis framework using official specifications, then lined up every score against its price. The short answer: not really. Price is a surprisingly weak predictor of performance, the most expensive vacuum on the market isn't close to the best, and the sweet spot is nowhere near the top of the price sheet. Here's what the data shows in 2026.

Finding 1: The most expensive robot vacuum isn't the best — and it's not close

The priciest robot vacuum we track is the Roborock Saros Z70 at about $2,600. It scores a 3.6. The highest-scoring vacuum, the Dreame X60 Max Ultra, earns a 4.8 — and costs roughly $900 less. In fact, two models cost more than our top-rated pick while scoring lower than it. Paying the most is, if anything, mildly correlated with paying for the wrong things.

Finding 2: Price barely predicts performance

Across all 43 scored models, the correlation between price and Roboclan Score is just 0.46 — a weak-to-moderate positive relationship. In plain terms: knowing a vacuum's price tells you very little about how good it actually is. Plenty of $1,500 machines outscore $2,000 ones, and several sub-$600 models beat pricier rivals outright.

Finding 3: The $600–$1,000 range is the worst value on the shelf

Group every vacuum by price band and average the scores, and a strange dip appears. Sub-$600 models average 3.63. The $600–$1,000 band actually drops to 3.28 — the lowest of any band. Then it climbs to 3.86 in the $1,000–$1,500 range and 4.16 above $1,500. The takeaway: the mid-budget tier is a dead zone. If you're spending under $600 you get honest value; step up to $600–$1,000 and you often pay more for less. Either stay budget or jump to the $1,000+ tier.

Finding 4: You can get 88% of the best for a third of the price

The top score is 4.8. The Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2 scores 4.2 — about 88% of the way to the best vacuum on the market — for roughly $570, or about a third of the flagship's price. For most homes, the last 0.6 points of score is not worth an extra thousand dollars.

Finding 5: Max suction is not a premium feature

It's easy to assume the strongest suction lives only at the top of the range. It doesn't. The cheapest vacuum with a perfect 5/5 suction rating is the Ecovacs T90 PRO Omni at about $900 — the same suction rating as flagships costing $1,700. What the flagships add is mopping, docks and navigation, not raw suction. If suction is your only priority, you're overpaying at the top.

Finding 6: Diminishing returns kick in around $1,500

The average score climbs with price, but slowly, and it flattens fast. Moving from the $1,000–$1,500 band (average price about $1,370) to the $1,500-plus band (average about $1,760) buys just 0.30 more points of score on average — roughly $390 for three-tenths of a point. The cheapest vacuum to reach flagship-tier (4.5+) is the Roborock Saros 20 at about $1,600; spending beyond that mostly buys niche extras, not a better clean.

By brand: who scores best on average

Averaging Roboclan Scores across every scored model (brands with at least three), the order is: Dreame at 4.09 (14 models), Roborock at 3.92 (10 models), Ecovacs at 3.60 (9 models), Narwal at 3.50 (4 models) and Eufy at 3.14 (6 models). What this means if you're buying

The data points to a simple strategy. Ignore the top of the price sheet unless you specifically need its niche features. Skip the $600–$1,000 dead zone. Either buy a strong sub-$600 value pick or jump straight to the $1,000–$1,700 tier, where scores are highest per dollar. And don't pay a premium for suction alone — it's available cheaply.
