Four-legged robots are moving out of the lab and onto job sites — inspecting substations, patrolling plants, hauling loads across terrain that stops wheels cold. But every maker publishes specs its own way, which makes it hard to answer a basic question like "which one actually carries more?" We rate every quadruped we track on the same four axes using official manufacturer specifications. Here's how they compare in 2026.
How We Compare Quadrupeds
We rate quadrupeds on four capability axes, each 1–5: mobility (speed and terrain), payload, battery life, and intelligence (onboard compute, sensing and autonomy). Two honest notes: we publish no overall score for quadrupeds, because they're sold by quote rather than at a public price and a value axis would mean inventing one; and every model here is "contact sales" — we report that plainly instead of guessing a number.
The Standouts by Capability
Fastest: DEEP Robotics LYNX M20S
The DEEP Robotics LYNX M20S is a wheeled-leg flagship that hits a stated 20.1 mph in lab conditions — far beyond any purely legged robot here. It also clears a 39.4-inch vertical step, carries up to 100 lb, runs on hot-swappable dual batteries and is rated IP67 across a −30°F to 131°F range. Among purely legged robots, the Unitree B2 is the speed leader at over 13.4 mph.
Strongest: AgiBot D1 MaxPro
If the job is hauling, the AgiBot D1 MaxPro leads on raw payload with 110.2 lb — the highest of any quadruped we track — backed by 300 N·m joints and a 5.5-hour battery. The Unitree B2 rates 88.2 lb walking (and a much higher 264.6 lb standing), and the Unitree A2 carries 55 lb while walking.
Toughest terrain: DEEP Robotics LYNX M20S and Unitree B2
For obstacle-crossing and rugged duty, two machines stand out: the LYNX M20S with its 39.4-inch step clearance and IP67 sealing, and the Unitree B2, which crosses 15.7-inch obstacles, climbs past 45 degrees and is also IP67. Both are built for outdoor industrial work rather than tidy demo floors.
Longest endurance: Unitree A2 and the heavy AgiBot models
Endurance is the quiet constraint on any deployed robot. The Unitree A2 runs over 5 hours on dual 907 Wh packs; the AgiBot D1 MaxPro manages about 5.5 hours unladen; and the Unitree B2 covers 4–6 hours. More useful than the raw number: several of these use hot-swappable batteries, which matters far more than top speed for continuous operation.
Smartest / most autonomous: AgiBot D1 MAX and the LYNX Pro line
On compute and autonomy, the AgiBot D1 MAX pairs an NVIDIA Orin NX (100–157 TOPS) with dual 96-line LiDAR and GNSS RTK, while DEEP Robotics' LYNX M20 Pro pairs a triple-redundant compute stack with omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. These are the platforms built to navigate and inspect on their own, not just be driven.
Best for research and development: Unitree Go2 EDU
Not every buyer needs an industrial hauler. The Unitree Go2 EDU is a compact, ~33 lb research platform with full SDK access, 3D LiDAR and an optional Jetson Orin module — the standard entry point for labs and classrooms. DEEP Robotics' Lite3 Pro fills a similar compact-research niche.
The New Split: Wheeled-Leg vs Classic Legged
The most important trend in this category is the rise of wheeled-leg robots — quadrupeds with a wheel at each foot. They roll fast and efficiently on flat ground, then switch to legs for stairs and obstacles. DEEP Robotics' LYNX line and the Unitree B2-W (12.4 mph, a stated 31-mile range under an 88 lb load, and can tow up to 220 lb) lead this class. Purely legged robots like the B2 are slower on the flat but more sure-footed on truly broken terrain. Which one fits depends entirely on the ground your robot will actually cover.
What Actually Matters When You Evaluate One
Read payload as "walking," not "standing." Standing payload figures (Unitree quotes 264.6 lb for the B2) are impressive but describe a robot holding still; the walking payload is what it can carry while working. Always compare the walking number.
Endurance and hot-swap beat top speed. A deployed inspection robot spends its day walking slowly and watching, not sprinting. Battery life — and whether you can swap packs without downtime — will shape your operation more than a headline mph.
Check the IP rating and temperature range. Outdoor and industrial work demands sealing. IP67 (LYNX M20S, B2, B2-W, D1 series) means dust-tight and water-immersion-resistant; IP56 (A2) is meaningfully less protected.
Compute decides autonomy. A robot with Jetson Orin-class compute and multi-LiDAR sensing can navigate and inspect on its own; a lighter platform needs more human control or an added module.
