China's Unitree, AgiBot, LimX and DEEP Robotics now define the affordable end of legged robotics — but every maker publishes its specs differently, in different units, which makes them almost impossible to line up. This is our single-framework index of the field: 16 humanoids and 28 quadrupeds, every figure drawn from official manufacturer specifications and normalized to the same units, so you can compare them directly. Journalists and researchers are welcome to cite this page with a link. Here is what the data shows in 2026.

What This Index Covers

We rate every robot on the same category framework using official manufacturer specifications, with no paid placements. Humanoids and quadrupeds carry no overall score and no value axis, because they are sold by quote rather than at a public price — inventing a "value" number would mean inventing a price. Every model below is "contact sales." All figures are converted to US units (mph, lb, inches, °F) for direct comparison. Finding 1: The fastest quadruped isn't legged — it's wheeled

The single fastest machine in this field is the DEEP Robotics LYNX M20S, a wheeled-leg quadruped that hits a stated 20.1 mph in lab conditions. The fastest purely legged robot, the Unitree B2, tops out above 13.4 mph. Wheeled-leg designs — a wheel at each foot that rolls on flat ground and walks over obstacles — are quietly redrawing the top of the speed chart, and both DEEP Robotics and Unitree (with the B2-W) now field them.

Finding 2: "Standing payload" can be three to four times the real working number

The most misread spec in this category is payload. The Unitree B2 is quoted at 88.2 lb walking but 264.6 lb standing — a 3× gap. The Unitree A2 is 55.1 lb walking versus 220.5 lb standing (4×), and the Unitree B1 is 44.1 versus 176.4 (4×). Standing payload describes a robot holding still; the walking figure is what it can actually carry while working. Any comparison that uses the standing number overstates real capability by a factor of three or more.

Finding 3: The highest joint count is not the most capable robot

On raw degrees of freedom, the LimX Oli Super leads all humanoids with 43 — but it has no dexterous hands. The Unitree H2 Plus reports 75 DOF, yet 44 of those live in its two 22-DOF hands, which is exactly where manipulation happens. Degrees of freedom in the arms and legs tell you about mobility; DOF in the hands tell you about useful work. A high total with no hands overstates dexterity, so the count only means something once you see where the joints actually sit.

Finding 4: Battery life is the real ceiling — and it has barely moved

Across all 16 humanoids, runtime spans just ~1 hour (the Unitree R1 family) to ~4 hours (the LimX Luna), with most clustered at 1.5–3 hours. For machines meant to work rather than demo, endurance — not speed or joint count — is the binding constraint. That is why hot-swappable batteries (LimX Luna's dual slide-out packs, and several quadrupeds including the LYNX M20S and AgiBot D1 MAX) matter more in practice than a slightly larger single-charge figure.

Finding 5: Onboard compute spans two orders of magnitude

The gap between the lightest and heaviest platforms is enormous. Entry humanoids from LimX and AgiBot run on RK3588-class chips (single-digit TOPS), while the Unitree H2 Plus carries an NVIDIA Jetson T5000 rated at 2,070 FP4 TFLOPS. The robots that can actually run modern vision-language-action or foundation models onboard — rather than stream to an external computer — are a small subset at the top. Compute, more than any mechanical spec, separates a research demo from an autonomous worker.

Finding 6: Humanoid walking speed has converged; quadruped speed has not

Every humanoid in the index walks between 1.8 mph (AgiBot A2 LITE) and 4.5 mph (Unitree G1) — a narrow band where bipedal locomotion has effectively plateaued. Quadrupeds, by contrast, run from 2.7 mph (Unitree B1) past 20 mph (LYNX M20S), a spread of more than 7×. For humanoids, the competition has moved off walking pace and onto dexterity, compute and endurance; for quadrupeds, mobility is still a live differentiator.

The Four Brands

Unitree fields by far the widest range, from the compact G1 humanoid to the heavy B2 quadruped and wheeled B2-W. AgiBot pairs high DOF counts and strong compute with the heaviest-carrying quadruped (D1 MaxPro, 110.2 lb). LimX competes on mechanical specification — the highest humanoid joint count (Oli Super) and the longest humanoid battery (Luna). DEEP Robotics specializes in industrial inspection and leads the wheeled-leg class with its LYNX line.
